The Garage Wine Co. are an amazing inclusive, ethical wine producer from Chile who are reviving and co-operating with scores of farmers in Maule and Itata. In their words - 'We have raised a veritable posse of vineyard hands whose skills are working the vineyards the old way / the traditional way– originario. We cultivate vineyards with small vigneron partners who work with horse and plough as his family has done for generations. Some of the parcels, where the next generation moved to the city, we have opted to rent long-term creating more work for the local hands who do want to stay on the farm.'
All the wines are made by hand with native yeasts in small tanks, punched down manually and pressed out in a small basket press. GWCo is still very much a DIY operation and still tow much of the crop back to the winery in trailers behind trusty pickup trucks 2,000 kilos at a time.
This comes from a vineyard they manage themselves in perhaps the freshest corner of the Maule valley, high on the coastal range where the reds just manage to ripen. The wine is fermented without skins in two parts. Part of the blend is pressed out like a white and the other half is fermented like a red without skins.
This is complex rose meant for food, lots of red fruit, herbal citrus, with a nice oily texture. Great acidity which means the wine can really age. This is very similar to the 2012 vintage which was quite austere at release but tasted recently has grown in complexity.

Quick note on Fine Wine purchasing.
When ordering that special bottle of wine it is worth doing a little research before making a purchase. Wine is a living product, which goes through changes and stages of development in the bottle, as well as varying between vintages. If you are considering ordering an older vintage we recommend speaking to a member of staff or using a review site like cellartracker.com to try and get as full a picture as possible of the flavour profile and development of the bottle you are considering.
