Winemaking was established in this historic climat as far back the 1360's, with Grand Cru status granted in 1981. All but a monopole, with the Freune family purchasing the estate which takes up almost the entire Clos des Lambrays in 1996. At 8.8Ha it is in fact the largest Grand Cru under single ownership in Bourgogne.

Thierry Brouin has been the winemaker since 1979, with a low interventional, lutte raisonnée approach. Ploughing by horse, and no use of chemicals in the the vineyard.

The climat is divided into three vineyards areas. 'Les Larrets' brings elegance and finesse to the Clos des Lambrays. 'Le Meix-Rentier', at the bottom of the hill, composed of a deeper bed of soil provides the backbone of the wine. 'Les Bouchots' at the northernmost section of the vineyard, has its fruit usually picked at the end of harvest. These three components contribute several distinct facets to the final Grand Cru wine.

Approximately 50% new oak is used for Grand Cru level Lambrays wines.

On the nose the wine evokes, raspberry, rose petal and ripe black cherry. Sumptuous, mouth filling yet structured across the palette with a mineral core. Layered on the long finish. A real energy to this generous wine.
